How does it take place
The Theory of Knowledge Conference is a completely student-led, and student initiated event that embodies three days of student led workshops on a specific theme related to the TOK course. Propelled by the creativity of the years theme, these workshops take on many forms and shapes to explore topics through the lens of the TOK syllabus. It is then up to each workshop leader to conceptualize and execute the workshop in front of an audience.
The TOK conference is the oldest student led event at UWC Maastricht. It was started in 2009 by a group of passionate and TOK-loving students. After a discussion in class they decided they would like to build a platform on which “TOK-esc” discussions could be conducted outside of a classroom setting. It was thus that with their supervisor Mr. Simon Murray that they held the very first TOK Conference at UWC Maastricht in 2009. From that year henceforth each TOK Conference has revolved around a theme relating to the TOK curriculum. These have been; “Boarder crossing?”, “How should one live?”, “What is real?”, “What can we trust?”, “Where do we draw the line?” and lastly “What are we…?”. Now, as this years edition of the TOK Conference organizing team we aim to continue defining the history of the TOK Conference.
